ASADA saga pushes Dons to $1.33m loss

ESSENDON has recorded a net loss of more than $1.3 million in 2015, but is confident it can return to profit next year.

The Bombers lost $1,336,354 last financial year, partly blaming costs associated with the ongoing supplements saga for the loss.

CEO Xavier Campbell insisted the club was in a strong financial position despite this year's results.

He said the Bombers' cash flow suggested next year would prove better for the bottom line.

"Our financial loss this year is the result of a number of unforeseen costs to the business," Campbell said. 

"The loss includes a combination of abnormal costs associated with the ASADA/WADA issue and the impact of a disappointing season on the field."

"Importantly, we have a healthy cash profit through operations of nearly two million dollars.

"We continue to generate strong cash flows, almost two million dollars in earnings in 2015, and our investments including Windy Hill Venue, Melton Country Club and Windy Hill Fitness Centre, all generated close to half a million dollars in increased revenue … we can return to surplus in 2016."

Campbell thanked the club's members for their continued support and highlighted the record number (60,819) as a "testament to the loyalty and passion of the Essendon family".
