MRP full statement: NAB Challenge week three

The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the matches played in week three of the 2016 NAB Challenge. The following chargeswere laid:

Luke Goetz, Western Bulldogs, has been charged with misconduct (pushing the player over the fence) against Colin Garland, Melbourne, during the fourth quarter of the Round Three NAB Challenge matchbetween the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne, played at Craigieburn on Sunday March 6, 2016.

In summary, his $1500 sanction can be reduced to a $1000 sanction with an early guilty plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as a misconduct offence. Theincident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has noapplicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables theplayer to accept a $1000 sanction.

Other Incidents Assessed:
Contact between Essendon’s Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti and the Geelong Cats’ Patrick Dangerfield from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said that Dangerfield was preparing to mark with McDonald-Tipungwuti comingto the contest. As the ball arrived, McDonald-Tipungwuti made strongbody contact to Dangerfield and a free kick was paid at the time to theGeelong player. It was the view of the player the contact was notunreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
