Match report: Slow-starting Port powers past Lions

A scintillating second-quarter performance has helped Port Adelaide to a thumping 77-point win over the Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval on Sunday night.
After trailing by nine-points at quarter-time, the Power came out firing in the second term, kicking seven goals to one to turn the deficit into a half-time lead of 29 points.
The 21.10 (136) to 7.17 (59) win was Port's fourth of the season and came on the back of strong performances from Jasper Pittard (30 disposals, one goal) Ollie Wines (30 disposals, one goal) and captain Travis Boak (31). Forwards Charlie Dixon (five goals), Chad Wingard, Justin Westhoff and Aaron Young (three goals each) led the way for Port Adelaide.
Despite being smashed in the hit-out count 58-24, Port dominated the clearances 52-34 to claim midfield dominance. The inaccurate Lions were kept goalless in the third quarter, only managing seven behinds.
Dayne Beams was the lone shining light for the visitors in his first game of 2016 with 30 touches and the Lions' opening goal of the match.
To further compound the loss for the Lions, skipper Tom Rockliff limped from the field in the second quarter with a serious hamstring injury that could keep him out for a number of weeks. More to come
